Molly Danger Audio Comic preorders begin Tomorrow!

In 2013, the audio movie studio AudioComics will release its newest AC Kids title based on the forthcoming children’s graphic novel series from industry superstar Jamal Igle (Action ComicsSupergirl,FirestormDaredevil/Shi): Molly Danger!
Produced in association with Action Lab Entertainment, and directed by AudioComics co-founder William Dufris, Molly is “the princess of finesse,” the most powerful ten-year old in the world. Protector of Coopersville, New York from the villainous Supermechs, including Two-Fisted Tommy and Lil’ Cavey, she has legions of devoted fans, movies and merchandise bearing her name, and more fame than anyone can fathom. But what she really wants more than anything…is a friend. A family. And a real life.
Meanwhile, the forces of evil are converging to rock Molly’s world. For 20 years she has been led to believe that she’s an immortal alien whose family died when their ship crash-landed on Earth, genetically altered by the earth’s atmosphere. She also believes that she is the last of her people. She is wrong–very wrong…
As with AudioComics’ productions of Titanium RainStarstruck, and Honey West: Murder on Mars, the finished work will be available on both compact disc and pay-per-Mp3 digital download, with cover art by Igle, and for sale through AudioComics’ and Action Lab’s websites, iTunes, Amazon, and at comic book and sci-fi conventions.

Who's Getting Disintermediated? Questions for the ICv2 Conference

An ICv2 Release.  Technology is disrupting the comics and graphic novel supply chain, but who’s going to get disintermediated in the process?

We had an interesting conversation on the plane on the way out to San Diego Comic-Con with an artist who’s currently working for Marvel.  He told us of how his revenues from selling original art and prints on his Website were steadily growing, as were his Twitter followers, and how he was planning to use those assets to launch a new original Webcomic, followed by a Kickstarter, followed by traditional graphic novel publishing.

Others are going from Webcomics to digital release, to print collections.

And some forgo the Webcomics, release the installations of the product digitally, and collect them into trade paperbacks when they’ve got enough material.

Any of the models above can be coupled with merch sales direct from creator to consumer.

These business models, or elements from them, are increasingly the way that creators or publishers can launch original intellectual properties, test the reaction, hone the material, and build an audience.  The new tools enabled by technology, including direct interaction between creators and their fans, comics on the Web, digital sales of comics, and crowdfunding, can replace or enhance the traditional methods of releasing a print product, gauging the reaction, and adapting for future releases.

This new, more direct, contact between creators and fans has the potential to replace a lot of functions previously performed by publishers, distributors, and retailers, the three-tier model that’s been used to distribute comics for the past decades.

How will this impact the business going forward?  Will increasing numbers of creators opt out of the traditional distribution channels of comic stores and bookstores?

Or will they just use the new tools to build an audience, get a bigger share of the pie from their most devoted fans, and continue to use traditional publishing to reach the rest of the market?

Jerry's Artarama online division is the lead sponsor for the launch party. Co-sponsors of the event are Strathmore Artist Papers and Artograph which makes projectors and light boxes.
The Molly Molly Danger Book One launch party is planned for Saturday October 12th, 2013 from 9pm-12pm at JHU Comic books in New York City. The launch party is planned during New York ComicConwhich takes place at the Javits Center in mid October. The V.I.P. Cocktail hour is from 7:30-9 pm along with gift bags for attendees and catering by Bassett Caterers.
Molly Molly Danger Book One launch party proceeds will benefit the Hero Initiative, a nonprofit organization providing a financial safety net for comic creators who may need emergency medical aid, financial support for the essentials of life, and an avenue back into paying work. Co-sponsors of the event include Strathmore and Artograph.
“Molly Danger” is the story of the world’s most powerful 10-year-old girl who is a seemingly immortal, strong superhero protecting the town of Coopersville for the last 20 years. The book is a hardcover, European format graphic album series scheduled to be published in early October. To help fund his project, Igle created a Kickstarter project to cover the costs of producing, printing and shipping. Money raised through Ingle’s Kickstarter endeavors will also be used to hire professional talent to assist in fleshing out future “Molly Danger” series. Through his Kickstarter project, Igle surpassed his goal of $45,000, raising a total of $50,329.
Igle is an award-winning artist and writer and a 22-year veteran of the comic book industry. His clients include Marvel Comics, Walt Disney Inc., Sony Television and many others.
